Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is a system of assessment that looks at a student's relevant prior learning  and skills within an industry to evaluate and determine the knowledge and skills he or she acquired outside the learning institution.

Recognition of Prior Learning is available and all students are offered the opportunity to participate in RPL upon enrolment.

Recognition of Prior Learning is recommended as an option where individuals have been working in a relevant job role for at least 2 years.

A streamlined RPL process has been developed which requires the student to make a self-assessment of their skills, participate in an interview with an assessor, provide documentary evidence and demonstrate practical skills where relevant.

Skills Recognition - How candidates can prepare
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition means the candidate gains credit towards a vocational qualification - sometimes a full qualification - without undertaking a complete training program. Recognition is faster, cheaper and more efficient than putting people through training in areas they already know well. It means less time off the job and is more satisfying for the learner.

Recognition including recognition of prior learning (RPL), is a process for giving candidates credit for skills, knowledge and experience gained through working and learning. It can be gained at any stage of their lives, through formal and informal learning.
