HLTAID004 – Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting
HLTAID004 - This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children, and adults. The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.
This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).
Specific licensing requirements, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and/or relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority.
Course Content
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid responce to infantsm children and adult educations and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

Industry/ Enterprise/ Licensing Requirements
Early Education and care workplaces require a current and up to date first aid certificate as a licensing requirement.
The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority instructs that all those trained in first aid should refresh their skills every three years this includes HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting. Students will be made aware of this requirement prior to enrolment (via the Course Outline).
Entry Requirements
-Students will need access to first aid policy & procedures from a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care workplace
-Students must have the physical ability to provide resuscitation by kneeling on the floor and performing two 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR
